Welcome
It is a pleasure to welcome trustees and participants to the 2007
NSLA/LBANS Conference. I would also like to extend a special welcome
to the Honorable Karen Casey, Minister of Education, who will be our
guest at the banquet. As in the past few years, meeting jointly with
the NSLA is a wonderful opportunity for library trustees to learn
about new library services, share the dynamism of library personnel
and gain a greater understanding of the role that libraries,
especially public libraries, play in the lives of Nova Scotian’s.
The theme of this year’s conference, “The Festival of Writer’s”
reminds us that at the heart of every library is the creative work
of many. The dissemination of that work is what makes libraries a
vital part of all our communities. Over the next three days we will
have the privilege of listening to a renowned group of authors and
learning from experts on very timely issues facing library trustees.
I hope you take with you new ideas and a renewed enthusiasm for the
advocacy of public libraries.
On behalf of LBANS I would like to thank the Pictou-Antigonish
Regional Library for hosting this year’s conference, and to extend
special thanks to Lynn Lavoie and all the members the organizing
committee for their organization, dedication and hard work in
presenting a Festival of Writers – from parchment to podcast.
Sincerely
Janet Ness, President
Library Boards Association of Nova Scotia.
