Frank Calder Memorial Historic Garden

Welcome to our garden!

Beyond our beautiful arbor which is practically lovely enough to be wed under, is a serene garden paradise we know you'll fall in love with.

The Frank Calder Memorial Historic Garden was erected in honor of past member of the Pictou County Historic Society, Frank Calder.  He was a very active member of the society.

When the Carmichael Stewart house was given over to the town, the back yard was simply a plot of land.  However, over time, and with the dedication of several former members of the society, the land has been transformed into a small garden paradise.  The intent was to create a space that would be true to the heritage of the house, so the lush has been specially planted so as to feature plants that would have been in vogue over one hundred years ago.  Today, we feature almost 50 species of plants that could have been found in house gardens in 1880, when the house was built.
