The public library has always been a place where information was archived and a gatheriing place where people talked and listened - judgement free. However, the way people access public libraries (and how people are reading) is changing. For the Pictou-Antigonish Regional Library the challenge is finding a way to financially keep up with these changes when our community needs us the most.
Our community is full of readers, but the way they're reading is changing. By donating to the 'Need to Read' Campaign, your gift will help us towards our goal of $10,000 to provide:
Individual donations are tax-deductible, they help us get closer to our goal, and it goes back to your community. For your charity of choice this season, consider the library. Your community will benefit from it for years to come.
For Julie Martin, the library has always been a part of her life.
For Julie Martin, the library has always been a part of her life. Now the way she uses and relies on the library is very different. An audio book user for over 25 years, her passion for reading is as strong as always despite her visual impairment.
When the library gave her the option of using a Playaway a few years ago, she tried one and loved it for a number of reasons. First, she didn't have to worry about plugging it in or navigating a website with her limited vision to download software. Doing everyday tasks, she likes the Playaways because they're so portable.
The option to listen to a book opens up a whole new world for her and, as her vision continues to deteriorate, listening to a book makes her feel like she has company all the time.
