On page 50 of the History of Bridgeville by the WI, it mentions the family of Alexander MacDonald, (Roy) who were originally from Bridgeville, but at that time living in Pictou. It said Alexander had a sister Bess and they were descendents of John MacDonald of the 84th (Iain MacEoghainn Oig.) If anyone has contact with this family, I would like to make contact with this family to exchange MacDonald family information with them. Regards, Ben MacDonald Glendale Arizona

Great Site: I am looking for information on John MacLean who arrived in Georgetwon 1773-74 with a wife and one child. Part of the settlers from Dumfrie area, Scotland to PEI - Lot 59, Dumfries Settlement. Many from this settlement traveled to Pictou either in spring of 1774 or 75 and settled East River Durham. John 2nd was a child at the time. Married to Ellsa, then Janet Smith - children from ellsa (I think) William, John, Ann, David, Thomas (who drowned) James and Robert. Ann MacLean (1805-1890)married Finlay MacDonald(1803-1867) I do not know where to begin to look for Finlay's parents or grandparents. They would be my great, great, great grandparents. Anne and Finlay's child, John MacLean MacDonald married Mary Gunn. The original John MacLean was one of the first elders of the Presbyterian Church in Durham. Does anyone have info on him, his wife and other children he may have had besides John 2nd.?

While some of his family probably stayed in Nova Scotia, he migrated to the US between 1780 and 1790. I know so little about him and the family who stayed behind. Are there any records available that might help in my search? (His childrens' names were: John, Mary, William, Colin, Sarah, and Jane; I'm guessing that this fits with the naming tradition.) Also, is there a connection between John G. English and (1) Patrick English in the Egerton area of Pictou County who had a son Michael born in New Glasgow in 1831 and/or (2) William English, born around 1830 in the Thorburn area?

I am a member of the Pictou County Roots Society since July 2002.

I have found my GGrandfather, Donald MCDONALD and his, wife Jessie MCKINNON MCDONALD, in both the 1871 and 1881 census of Canada. It shows Donald b in Nova Scotia abt 1838 and Jessie b in PEI abt 1839. They were married 25 May 1857 in Albion Mines. In 1871 they lived in Middle River Div 2; in 1881 they lived in Westville. Donald was a Miner. They had following children: Laughlin b 1856 Mary Jane b 1860 Catherine b 1862 Jessie A. b 1864 d 1947 James D b 1868 Abigail b 1871 Maude b ? Arlline b ? John (Jack) b 1974 William Daniel b 1876 (My Grandfather) They were Scot Presbyterians Jessie MCDONALD remarried in 1902 after the death of Donald, to James ROY, also a miner, from Westville. Jessie died 16th June 1915 and is buried in St Phillips Cemetery in Westville,[had been Mt Carmel Presbyterian] The family lived in Westville, Sydney CB, and Middle River areas. I would like to know when Donald McDonald died and where he is buried; also where he was born in Nova Scotia. I know there are a gazillion McDonalds but hope there might be some info for me in the Ritchie or the P. Witness docs.
Jessie ROY died 16 June 1915 in Boston, was buried in Westville, Pictou County, Nova Scotia. The cemetery is named St. Phillips, but had been Mt. Carmel Presbyterian. She was 75 years old at death. The family lived in Middle River, and in the Westville, Nova Scotia areas. Donald was a miner. In the 1901 Pictou County Census there is only one listing: Westville #3, Home #65, Jessie McDonald listed as "Housekeeper". Believe that Donald died between 1881 and 1901, but have no other information. Thanks in advance for your help. Warren MacDonald in Jupiter, Florida

Haven't been to Pictou since 1976, when we buried my great aunt Caroline Agnes Macdonald Blake. Have no records of my grandfather James Lorne M. nor sister Hellen, brother Clarence (?) nor their parents. James was Clerk of Court in Quincey Mass for many years - early 1900's to the fifties. I'm in the States, Salem MA

I am looking for any information on the Hiltz name.  My grandfather's name was William Charles Hiltz.  He lived in River John and was married to Lula Langille.  I would also like some info on my maternal grandparents, Earl Patriquin and Elizabeth (Libby) Bezeanson.  Hope to hear from someone.

I am from Pictou County, a little place called Willowdale. Although I have not lived there since 1959, I am still very much interested in my native county. I was delighted to find your WebSite while browsing the Net. There are so many names that I am very familar with and I welcome an e-mail from any of you out there who remember me.

Looking for Connors/Nelson Family.

My G Grandfather was born at River John, Pictou County, Nova Scotia, 25 Jan. 1825 His parents were David Connors from Nova Scotia and Mary Nelson b. 1805 Prince Edward Island. They moved to West River Station, where more children were born. Then moved to Campbellton, New Brunswick. David Connors d. 1879 Mary(Nelson)Connors d. 1870. They are buried at the Old Athol House Cemetery, Atholville, NB. Another son, David Connors and his wife, Jane Morrison are buried at six mile cemetery, near Mt.Thom. I wonder if they were related to Hugh Connors who applied for a Land Grant in 1809 at Mt.Thom???

Thanks for the great site and all the work you have done. Carol
