Run Information

The Run starts from the town of Pictou in front of the Town Hall on Water street. Runners should note that we do not finish back in Pictou, so arrangements should be made to have their vehicles driven to the finish or a pre-determined location.

Note: We meet at North Nova Education Centre in Parkdale at 7:30a.m. to travel to Pictou for the start. Some room is available in the vans.

Runners kit bags etc. will be kept all together in a cargo van and will be at each of the 11 refreshment stops along the route. One van will be assigned to assist runners who are attempting to go either the entire distance or a significant distance or those who may encounter difficulty.

Safety is of the utmost importance. Local police and RCMP detachments will be escorting runners the entire distance. Also, Northumberland Security will be escorting in case police personnel are called away.

Refreshments are supplied and hopefully will satisfy everyone's requirements. These include - Water, Gatorade, bananas, fig cookies, granola bars, fruit, sandwiches, etc.

Runners who are anticipating running a distance of 16 miles or longer (we change clothes at this point) are asked to include the following in their kit bags. Towel, toque, gloves or mitts, extra sweat suit or tights, T-shirts, socks, under garments, running shoes, Vaseline.
The above is intended to serve as a guide for runners who are unsure as to what to bring for an event like this. The general rule for winter running is to dress in layers. You can always take some off if they are too warm.

The run finishes at the North Nova Education Center located in Parkdale. Showers are available there.

There will be a welcoming reception and program at the school which is very interesting, rewarding, and encouraging after a very long day. Refreshments will follow.

All are invited!!!

Guidelines for School Participation

Groups of organized students who are able to run various distances will be selected per school.

Students should be properly dressed for weather conditions and wear running shoes.

Any student under the age of 19 years of age and wanting to run outside of school hours must have a parent sign a waiver form from run organizers.

Hopefully other students not running will be out to cheer us on at either their designated regular spots or at various town halls.

List of designated places for students to run from or to cheer are:

  • Abercrombie Community Centre (old school) – buses park there.

  • 3.9 km – Pictou Landing Church to First Nations School gymnasium.

  • 1.0 km from First Nations School to crest of hill just outside community
(Bus picks up and transports adult runners)

  • 1.5 km – From Superior Propane in Trenton to Trenton Town Hall.

  • 1.5 km – From Trenton Town Hall to parking lot to former Hughie’s Taxi.

*Important* The portion of the run from George Street Bridge out to Westville Road is a heavy traffic area and we request that students show extreme caution in this area.

Restrictions are not so strict running through the Town portions of the route so they are no limits to those wanting to run with us in all the Towns.

Your co-operation and support is greatly appreciated to all of the above concerns and requests.
