Media Releases 2009
It's hard to believe, but this year marks the Twentieth Annual "Run Against Racism". On Thursday, April 16, 2009 marathon runner and New Glasgow resident, Henderson Paris will once again take to the roads of Pictou County along with support runners to run twenty two (22) miles to continually raise public awareness in the fight against racism.
This event is held in conjunction with the International Day to Eliminate Racism and Discrimination which is observed world wide on this date to mark the anniversary of the Sharpeville Massacre in South Africa in 1960.
As the run travels throughout the five towns and the Pictou Landing First Nations Community, we will be stopping at each Town Hall and First Nations community to ask for their continued support in the ongoing fight against Racism and Discrimination which continues to plague our society.
After many years of running and spreading awareness in our County, it is our combined belief and mission that we will touch the hearts and souls of every member of our society from the youngest to the most senior citizen of our communities, so that one day the dreaded perils of Racism and Discrimination might be eradicated.
The day long journey begins at 8:30 a.m. from the Town Hall in Pictou and ends approximately 4:00 p.m. at the North Nova Education Centre where a public reception to welcome the runners plus entertainment and a short program will be held.
Any runners wishing to join in, please contact Henderson by April 15th. (See Contact Information below)
The Run Against Racism's motto continues to be:
"Together We Can Make A Difference".
Yours sincerely,

March 12, 2009
Dear Sir/Madam:
On Thursday, April 16th, 2009 local town residents,
marathon runner Henderson Paris, and supporters for the
cause, will embark on the 20th Anniversary Run Against
Racism throughout the five towns of Pictou County making a
significant stop at the Pictou Landing First Nations
Community. This event is to commemorate a continued
awareness for the International Day for the Elimination
of Racial Discrimination.
We would remind you that the emphasis is not to be
placed on the run itself but rather the purpose for the
run. What had begun as one man's wish to pursue a
purpose has developed into a mission in which all may
become involved.
In past years, the organizers have relied on the good
will of persons/agencies/organizations and companies for
support and monetary assistance. It is our hope that
this will be an ongoing trend but as our economy
dictates, costs have grown. It is this realization that
finds the Organizing Committee seeking added monetary
assistance to help offset some of the costs that must be
absorbed.
We would therefore solicit your support in the form of a
donation. Cheques may be made payable to the Organizing
Committee for the Run Against Racism.
This letter serves as well to inform you that this event
will culminate in an Open Public reception at the North
Nova Education Centre. You are invited as well to greet
the runners as they reach the Town Hall location in each
respective town.
Every accomplishment has begun with "a first step"
realizing that the road to equality is not reached
without a struggle.
Yours sincerely,
Organizing Committee
