Each year the annual signing of
a proclamation for the Run
Against Racism is held in the
New Glasgow Town Hall chambers.
The signing takes place to
recognize March 21 as the
International Day to Eliminate
Racism and Discrimination. The
document involves the five towns
of Pictou County, the County of
Pictou and the Pictou Landing
First Nation.
The Town Crier declares the
Proclamation and representatives
then reinforce their on going
support for the international
day and the Run Against Racism.
Those in attendance are asked
not to lose sight of the real
reason for the Run Against
Racism - to fight the evils of
racism and discrimination so
that our youth will not have to
endure the many problems
associated with it.

THE INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR THE ELIMINATION
OF RACIAL DISCRIMINATION MARCH ...

WHEREAS |
The
Municipalities of New Glasgow, Stellarton,
Trenton, Pictou, Westville and the County of
Pictou are committed to the belief that
equal opportunity and treatment should exist
for all people;

WHEREAS |
Every resident of New
Glasgow, Stellarton, Trenton, Pictou,
Westville and the County of Pictou has the
right to realize his or her potential,
regardless of race, colour, national or
ethnic origin, and live at all times in
conditions of dignity, respect, and peace;
|
|
WHEREAS |
The General Assembly of the
United Nations has designated March 21 as
the International Day for the Elimination of
Racial Discrimination;
|
|
AND WHEREAS |
The elimination of racism
and racial discrimination can be
accomplished through understanding and
respect for the dignity of all people, and
is the social and moral responsibility of
each person;
|
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT,

proclaim March 21,... as the International
Day for the Elimination of Racial
Discrimination in New Glasgow, Stellarton,
