Biography

Mary Helen Falt

I was born in the little village of Northeast Harbor, on Mount Desert Island, Maine, June 13, 1906. My parents, John Edgar Falt and Emma Whitmore Frost had married October 4, 1904. They were happy to have a baby girl…

Things seemed to be going well for our little family when out of the blue came a letter to Dad from his youngest sister Estella, “Essie” to everyone. She wanted him to go back to Antigonish and help care for their aging parents. That must have been an agonizing decision for my parents to make. It meant leaving their lovely home… I believe it was in October 1907 that the day of departure came and we headed for Nova Scotia. There began a new life for my parents and me…

So Dad, Mom and I landed in Antigonish, N. S., after a very long train journey.
