Mourning

…it was August 10, 1910. There was no funeral home in the town then, and Mr Pat Floyd was the undertaker. He was a tall man and for a funeral he wore a tall black hat and black coattails. He was an imposing figure on the high seat of the hearse, driving a span of black horses with black plumes attached to the bridles. People would be ‘laid out’ in their own home after a coffin had been chosen and a black wreath was attached to the front door. For a day or two, friends called at the home to offer their condolences and then the funeral took place…
