50+1 Best Books Book List & Reading Challenge

In summer 2025, we asked patrons and staff to share suggestions for their All-Time, Most Favorite Books to read. Books that they love to read, and read again.

Originally planned as a list of just 50 titles, we received so many great submissions that we bumped up the final list to 50+1 Best Books to Read!

50+1 Best Books Reading Challenge 2025-2026

Discover a new read, or rediscover an old favourite!

Explore the stories PARL patrons named as their Best Books to Read, with monthly chances to win some awesome library prizes too! Our 50+1 Best Books Reading Challenge begins in November 2025, and runs until December 2026!

How to Enter

• Pick up your Bookmark: Drop by your local library, and pick up a special bookmark to keep track of all the books featured on the list that you’ve read.
• Enter Monthly Prize Draws: Don’t forget to fill out a monthly ballot (sharing which book on the list that you’ve just read) to win a prize of a 50+1 Best Books book bag or mug!
• 50+ Chances to Win! You can fill out a ballot for each book you read from the 50+1 Best Books list: every book is another chance to win!

This project was supported by a grant from Nova Scotia Provincial Library.

Through this Provincial Library grant, PARL was able to purchase additional copies of all 50+1 books, in various formats, including print books, audiobooks, downloadable eBooks, and a few titles in other languages.

This project was also supported by the Adopt-a-Library Literacy Program.
